Monthly NYCFC Meeting

July 18, 2025

NYC Friends of Clearwater is an environmental education organization that believes in celebration through music and community.  We are a chartered sloop club of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, both founded by folk musician and activist Pete Seeger 56 years ago to clean up the Hudson River.

We get together every month on the third Friday at 6:30 p.m.at Judson Memorial with live music, environmental discussion, and a potluck. We also are on Zoom so that distant and busy friends can join us.

Words Retire Indian Point! Ban Fracking! NYC Friends of Clearwater surround a line drawing of the Clearwater sailing by the New York City skyline.

July’s presentation is

Nancy Vann of Safe Energy Rights Group and Susan Van Dolsen of United for Clean Energy will speak to the group about Governor Hochul’s recent instructions to the New York Power Authority to build at least one gigawatt of new nuclear power in the state. While demand for power is increasing with Al, data centers, and cryptocurrency mining, nuclear energy is too expensive, will take too long, will increase our electric bills and the radioactive waste will remain in the host communities for generations to come. Utility customers and taxpayers would ultimately bear the brunt of the costs of nuclear power. New York must only support real renewable energy and efficiency.
